Jessica spends much of her time submerged in the landscape of the southwest, whether lost in time amongst the quoits, standing stones and woodlands, or being battered by the unrelenting winds of the moors and cliffs. It is unsurprising that these experiences resonate throughout her work and often these influences give her paintings a presence beyond their size. They have an enduring quality which somehow has the ability to transcend time and place and strike a chord with an eclectic audience.

In her paintings, Jessica explores her response to the landscape, or her relationship with the inner self. She finds many feelings can be indescribable in words and with the loss of them, attempts to release these thoughts onto canvas.

Much of Jessica’s work is abstract and she lets emotion and feeling guide her hand. Every stroke or drip or smudge is important as all go to make up the sense of texture, depth and feeling of the whole. Jessica enjoys experimenting with her technique and trying to bring a richness to every painting. She uses her experience to make small, considered adjustments as she goes and to add a little afterwards.

It’s important to Jessica that her work exists as its own entity.
“My paintings come from my feelings about something. I hope even the pieces which are more recognisable as landscapes are experienced as separate from the original source material. I want to give people a feeling or experience rather than showing something representative of an object or scene.”
